Developed by US company Second Sight, it is designed to be implanted in the retina of blind people. Images from an external camera pass to a video processing unit, to an antenna, and then to the retinal implant which stimulates the retina to provide some vision. Users of this implant are able to perceive contrasts between light and dark areas. Photographed at the Institut de la Vision, in Paris, France. Argus II was approved for sale in Europe in 2011.
