Psoriasis on a man's body

MODEL RELEASED. Psoriasis rash on the abdomen of a 44 year old woman. Psoriasis is a skin disorder characterised by raised flaky patches on the skin, which are itchy and can be painful. It is an autoimmune disorder, one in which the body's immune system malfunctions. In psoriasis, white blood cells become over-active, causing inflammation and rapid growth and turnover of skin cells. Attacks can be brought on by stress or an injury. There is no cure for the condition, although the symptoms can be treated with steroid creams and derivatives of vitamins A and D. Exposing the affected area to ultraviolet light is also beneficial.
